EPSG Code
An EPSG code is a numeric identifier for a CRS, such as EPSG:4326 for WGS84 latitude/longitude.
Also known as: EPSG:4326, EPSG identifier
Expanded definition
EPSG codes provide a standard way to refer to coordinate reference systems. For example, EPSG:4326 represents WGS84 geographic coordinates in degrees.
EPSG codes remove ambiguity, but you still need to know whether coordinates are in degrees or meters and what axis order a tool expects.
When publishing AOIs or APIs, specifying an EPSG code is one of the simplest ways to make data interoperable across GIS tools and programming libraries.
